Fujinomiyaguchi is recommended for climbing Mt. Fuji!

Mt. Fuji is a mountaineering tourist spot that is gentle to beginners if you have a high risk of altitude sickness in mind. The roads are well-organized and you can buy drinks, rice and sweets in the huts all the way to the summit. In addition, there are almost no branches, and there is no risk of getting lost if you look at the destination sign firmly. Rather, the problem is how to get to the trailhead. If you do not properly grasp the access in advance, there is a danger that the mountain climbing start time will be delayed and it will be dark during descent.

Fujimiyaguchi has the highest altitude at the fifth station and can be climbed in a short time, so some people can take a day trip.

  • Fujinomiya 5th Station: 2400m (CT: 8 hours)
  • Subashiri 5th Station: 2000m (CT: 9 hours)
  • Yoshidaguchi fifth station: 2300m (CT: 9 hours)
  • Gotemba 5th station: 1500m (CT: 10.5 hours)

* CT = course time (not including breaks), there is a huge difference between people. So, as a tourist spot in Shizuoka, we will introduce the way to the fifth station of Fujinomiyaguchi and its charm.

Fujinomiyaguchi is recommended for climbing Mt. Fuji!

The actual state of the Fujinomiya route along the way and points to be aware of are summarized. If you’re climbing Mt. Fuji for the first time, look at signs of altitude sickness and fighting the cold.

From Fujinomiya to the summit of Fuji

Fifth station

During the mountain climbing season, private cars are restricted, so you can not access the fifth station with your own car. You need to reach the fifth station by shuttle bus or mountain bus. On the 5th station, snacks, drinks and sweets (behavioral food) are sold, but the prices are moderate. (About 3 times the price of flat land)

So we recommend that you purchase sweets and drinks in advance.

If you forget to buy it, please buy it at the fifth station. The more you climb, the faster the bottling is accelerated. (The summit is about 5 times the price of the fifth station)

By the way, the toilet also costs money. 200 yen for both large and small. Let’s prepare 1000 yen for 100 yen coin.

When you’re ready, it’s time to start climbing. From the fifth to the sixth station, there are few rocks and it is a very easy-to-walk soil path.

Let’s get used to the altitude at a slow pace at least until the sixth station. You can reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Even if you go slowly, you will arrive at the sixth station in 30 minutes, so don’t rush.

Sixth station

If you are hungry, have a lunch at the sixth station. The menu is plentiful and the level of food you might still find delicious.

We do not recommend the price after the 7th station, as the price will be higher and the taste will not be as good as flattering. Take a break, and when you’re fine, leave for the new seventh station. From the sixth station to the new seventh station, rock formations gradually appear.

The more you climb Mt. Fuji, the more rocky slopes are steep. Make sure you walk under your feet to avoid stumbling on rocks or slipping on gravel. It is 50 minutes walking slowly and arrives at the new seventh station.

New seventh station

In fact, the 7th station has a “new” 7th station and an “ancestor” 7th station. When I climbed for the first time, I thought “Is it a scam?” By the way, if you order fried soba (Fuji soba: 800 yen) at the seventh station, it looks like this ↓ ↓ ↓

I will refrain from commenting on the taste … The road to the 7th station of the ancestors is not something special, but rocky places are increasing. On rocky hills, raising your feet high can increase fatigue. Finding a foothold that can be climbed without raising the foot by making the steps as small as possible is the best way to avoid getting tired.

Just before arriving at the 7th station of the ancestor, it reaches an altitude of 3000m.

When the altitude exceeds 3000m, it is easy and cold even in summer. In addition, the concentration of air is about two-thirds that of the ground, so some people come out of their heads with a slight lack of oxygen. When you arrive at the 7th station of the ancestor, let’s wear rainwear for the cold. It is about 50 minutes walking slowly from the new 7th station to the original 7th station.

Ancestor seventh station

No matter how many times I go, I forget to take a picture of the original seventh station, At the 7th station of the ancestor, wear rainwear and take a break. The thinness of the air, the coldness and the tightness of the slope make it harder from here. It is about 50 minutes walking slowly from the 7th station to the 8th station.

Eighth station

From around the 8th station, the weather becomes unreliable. It was fine until the seventh station, but it was rainy from the eighth station. A cloud with a certain height will cover about the eighth station of Mt. Fuji. Conversely, it is cloudy until the 7th station, but it clears up from the 8th station. Let’s change to rainwear at the 7th station of the ancestors in advance so that you can respond to sudden weather changes.

* Symptoms such as headache and nausea may appear from about the eighth station. Since the possibility of altitude sickness is high, we recommend that you do not overdo it and abandon the climb. Altitude sickness can only be recovered by lowering the altitude. If you are not sick, climb to the ninth station. The slope is steep from the eighth station, but the road becomes a mix of rock and gravel ↓↓↓

The small gravel is very slippery, and if you slide it on a large rock, you may break it. From the eighth station to the ninth station, it takes about 50 minutes to walk slowly.

Ninth station

When you reach the ninth station, you will be one step away from the top. As the name of the ninth mountain hut “Mannen Snow Mountain Villa” is, you can see snow that does not melt all year round. (Mannnen Snow means Unmelting snow)The snow that has accumulated in the depression where the light does not hit well remains without melting, so there is no loss once you look at it. By the way, did you think the 9th station was the summit next? Unfortunately, Mt. Fuji has the  9.5th station.

It may be tough for your physical strength, but it is a stepping stone. Start by replenishing water and sweets and adjusting the condition. It is about 40 minutes walking slowly from the 9th station to the 9.5th station.

9.5th station

I can’t understand why 9.5th station exists… The hardest part of climbing Mt. Fuji is from 9.5th station to the summit.

There are many hard slopes on the rocks ↓↓↓

Moreover, the oxygen is only about 60% of the ground, so you can further reduce your physical strength. On the roadside at the summit from 9.5th station, you will see a lot of people sitting tired and tired. Here is the point where my wife was too tired and cut off. I didn’t seem to have altitude sickness, so I took a break and headed for the summit. It takes about 40 minutes to walk slowly from 9.5th station to the summit.

Summit

It is the summit! You can eat and stay at the summit Fujikan(restaurant and shop), but since the store opens around 4:30 in the evening, you can not buy food and drinks at the summit when climbing during the day. It’s a good idea to bring a cup of coffee in a thermos and take a break.

* In addition, the use of the mountaineering burner and Kochel is okay or gray, so it is better not to use it ↓ ↓ ↓ (This is a picture used in another mountain)

There are large gas cylinders near the hut and it is dangerous to use firearms. I really understand when I want to boil coffee and eat cup ramen …

By the way, you can buy amulets and red seals(Goshuin) at the summit. Mt. Fuji’s traffic safety amulets are so popular that they will be delighted to buy as souvenirs for friends and family. The person who collects your stamp will write that you will bring your stamp, a rare stamp that you cannot buy without climbing Mt. Fuji.

After a coffee break or souvenir purchase, it’s time to get down and go downhill. Climbing is more dangerous when going down than climbing. I slip well. Concentrate all nerves on your feet and safely descend to the fifth station so as not to fall!

Recommended access

There are four main methods. Either way, you will eventually arrive at the fifth station by bus.

* During the mountain climbing season of Mt. Fuji, there is a basic car regulation, so you can not stop the car at the fifth station.

Train and Bus

This is the access method that has the least physical burden, so you can start climbing well after you arrive. The disadvantages are that you have to know the transfer between the train and the mountain bus, and that you need to climb in time for the return bus. For example, from Kansai, you can arrive at Fujinomiyaguchi fifth station in three transfers.

1.Kansai to Shizuoka

At first we go from Kansai to Shizuoka by bullet train.

Shinkansen Fee:10360 yen
Time:1 hour and 49 minutes

The recommended way is to spend one night in Shizuoka at the end of a Friday job, and climb the following morning.

There are several accommodations around Shizuoka Station, but the recommended one is Sai Hotel. It is very cheap and you can stay for about 5,000 yen.

In addition, there is a drink bar near the reception and you can drink for free. I can’t see the light coming, but I don’t personally recommend sleeping in a hut on Mt. Fuji and aiming for the summit before dawn.

The reason is that the risk of altitude sickness is increased, and climbing at night with the headlights on is difficult because the feet are difficult to see.

2.Shizuoka to Fujinomiya

From Shizuoka, you can head to Fujinomiya, which has a mountain climbing bus, by JR.

The climbing bus departs early (6: 35-) only in the summer (July 13-August 31), so head to Fujinomiya in time.

Train fee :860 yen
Time:56 minutes

3.Fujinomiya to Fujinomiya 5th station

After arriving at Fujinomiya, buy a ticket (3,100 yen) at the bus stop at the north exit, then board the mountain climbing bus from the sixth bus stop.

If you take the first bus (6:35), you can arrive at Fujinomiya fifth station at 7:55 minutes.

If you have good legs, you can return at around 17:00 on the fifth station of Fujinomiyaguchi. The bus from Fujinomiya 5th Station to Fujinomiya Station is last at 19:00, so day climbing is also possible.

Night bus and mountain bus

If you can sleep well on a night bus, we recommend a night bus. When you wake up, you will arrive at Fujinomiya Station, and it’s easy to start climbing in a healthy state!

1.Kansai to Fujinomiya

From Kansai, you can go from Namba OCAT in Osaka, Osaka Station, Kyoto Station to Fujinomiya Station for 6,200-8,700 yen.

* Recommended because there are many cheap flights for a 3-row seat and toilet.

Namba OCAT 21:35 → Osaka Station 22:15 → Kyoto Station 23:18 → Fujinomiya Station 7:03.

2.Fujinomiya to Fujinomiya 5th station

From Fujinomiya to the fifth station of Fujinomiyaguchi, transfer to the mountain bus of Fujinomiya 8:10.

Please note that climbing buses cannot be reserved for seats and are arranged in order.

Car and shuttle bus

1.Kansai to Fujinomiya 2nd station

This is the most accessible access method, but it is difficult for the driver to get tired. If you can take a nap while taking turns driving, it is good that you do not get tired. You can arrive from Kansai to Fujinomiyaguchi second station in about 5-6 hours.

2.Fujinomiya 2nd station to 5th station

* Mt. Fuji has a private car regulation that regulates car entry during the climbing season.

The car stops at the parking lot (1000 yen / vehicle) at Mizugazuka Park, the second station of Fujinomiyaguchi, and transfers to the shuttle bus (roundtrip 1,800 yen / person) until the fifth station.

If you enter the Fuji Skyline from Fujinomiya and head to Mizugazuka Park, you can arrive in 2 km by going straight to Gotemba without turning at the second tollgate branch of Fujinomiyaguchi.

Shuttle bus time  table

Train and car and shuttle bus

It costs the most, but it’s the easiest way to travel and access. Take the train from Kansai to Shizuoka, then stay overnight at the inn and take a rental car to Mt. Fuji.

1.Kansai to Shizuoka

You go from Kansai to Shizuoka by Shinkansen. If you have no sightseeing in Shizuoka, we recommend that you go to Shizuoka at the end of the work before the holidays, and if you have sightseeing, go to Shizuoka on the morning of the first holiday.

When you arrive in Shizuoka, stay overnight at the inn. If you go to Shizuoka at the end of the work before the consecutive holidays, we recommend that you stay at Sai Hotel where cost performance is good.

You can make a reservation from Jalan.

2.Shizuoka to Fujinomiya 2nd station

On the day after staying at the inn, rent a car to the rental car shop and aim for the second station of Fujinomiyaguchi. Unlike mountain climbing buses, it would be nice to be able to access them whenever you want. From Shizuoka Station, you can access the second station of Fujinomiyaguchi in about an hour and a half using Tomei Expressway (about 1000 yen).

3.Fujinomiya 2nd station to Fujinomiya 5th station

After stopping at Mizugasuka Park, the second station of Fujinomiyaguchi, head to the fifth station by shuttle bus.

During the climbing season from July to August, buses leave every 30 minutes to 1 hour from 6:00 to 20:00 in the morning, so you can adjust the time frequently.

Prepare drinks and food, clothes and equipment, etc., board the shuttle bus, and head safely to the starting point.
